- Researching potential employees, prior to hiring has
helped many of our corporate clients defend against applicants
who, lied on their employment applications, have ongoing
financial problems when they were applying for work which
would have required them to handle substantial amounts of
cash etc. Background searches are the first and most cost
effective way of defending against internal corporate fraud
or theft.
- Corporations who do not take this first step are in a
defensive position when situations arise where an employee
is suspected of wrongdoing. One of these employers required
us to conduct extensive surveillance on an employee who
was eventually found to have been stealing proprietary information
from the employer and setting up a company with accomplices
in which she would be competing with current employer. Pre-screening
in this particular case would have determined that this
was a scenario, which could have been detected.
- Employers can be held civilly liable for actions of their
employees while conducting business on behalf of the employer.
One of our clients found out too late that in neglecting
to conduct thorough background and previous employment check
on an employee that she had a history of misrepresenting
facts to clients. The client settled out of court when it
was discovered the previous problems with other employers.
Unfortunately, the settlement was considerably more than
the background check would have been.
