It happened Monday at a hotel in Danver, Massachusetts. The mother asked her niece and a friend to watch her daughter while she took a shower.
In an interview with WCVB-TV, the baby’s mother said one of the girls was her niece.
The girls, whose names were not released because of their juveniles status, were babysitting the infant in Danvers on Monday when the shocking video was posted to Snapchat, according to published reports.
The video, appeared to show the girls putting the crying infant sideways into a shelf inside the refrigerator, closing the door and laughing while the baby can be heard screaming inside. After several seconds, the girls can be seen taking the baby back out and one of them can be heard laughing and saying, “See she’s OK.”
Police in Danver, Massachusetts found nothing funny about a baby being put into a refrigerator.
That’s why they arrested and both charged with assault, child endangerment, and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The mother said “I was horrified. I was in shock. I’m traumatized from that. I don’t trust anyone with my child anymore.”
The mother also said “I know she wouldn’t hurt my daughter and that wasn’t her intentions. I think it was all foolishness, stupidity,” the baby’s mother said. “I will no longer be leaving my children with my niece or her friends again ever in my life.”
The baby was only in the refrigerator for a few seconds and was not injured. But it still isn’t right for a 7-month-old to be stuffed into a refrigerator.
The teens were arraigned Tuesday. The Department of Children and Families is helping police in the investigation.
“Be careful who you leave your children with. You can’t trust anyone, not even your own family,” the baby’s mother said to close the interview.
